Unveiling barbet: A Journey Rooted in Self-education and Preserving Heritage.

In every personal endeavor lies a story—a narrative woven with personal experiences, cherished memories, and a vision for the future. For me, barbet is not just a venture; it's a manifestation of my roots, my childhood, and a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Ethiopia.

The name 'barbet' holds a profound significance, resonating with the fondest recollections of my formative years. It's derived from the joyful moments spent in my dad's restaurant—a cherished place etched in my memories, where the joy of running around was a daily delight.

But, barbet is not just a personal project; it's also a profound tribute to the unwavering dedication and hard work of my dad. It is a result of the journey, the sacrifices, and the resilience that propelled us to where we are today. It's a symbol of gratitude, honoring the relentless efforts that paved the way for our present, a testament to the indomitable spirit that shaped our path. So when it came to choosing a name, I knew it had to resonate with the essence of family. And that for me, is barbet.

So why barbet? Why now?

The answer lies in my desire to delve deeper into Ethiopian culture, language and overall history. Many of us, especially those like me who attended international schools lacked interest in learning about our country and sometimes even deemed knowing our history unimportant. But boy were we wrong. Now, I understand how critical it is to know your history and not just any history. But the history of an extraordinary country with extraordinary people, culture and language (I'm definitely biased). So here I am, taking matter into my own hands and choosing to share while deepening my knowledge . In addition to learning about my country, I also want to share the vibrant life of Addis Ababa, the daily experiences and the rich tapestry of our culture that surrounded me growing up. I aspire to share the Ethiopia that was my haven—a place that shaped me, and aim to preserve its essence. I wish to unveil and share the very best of that Ethiopia with the world and the generations to come.

With barbet, my aspiration is to create a brand that goes beyond mere commerce—a brand that becomes a conduit for one's knowledge about their country, cultural exchange, celebration, and education. I envision barbet as a platform that not only teaches and offers authentic products but also fosters connections, celebrates diversity, and empowers present and future individuals to embrace their heritage with pride.

Through our curated products and services, barbet strives to transport people on a sensory journey—a journey that transcends geographical boundaries and brings a piece of Ethiopia to homes across the globe.
